Wonderfully Made

Comparison is the thief of joy. -Theodore Roosevelt

I read that quote while reading a blog last week and I can not agree more with that statement. But in a world full of Pinterest ideas, flawless makeup, perfect parenting guides, immaculate homes, and photoshop, how can we not compare ourselves to others? When we scroll through Instagram, or Facebook, most of what we see are highlights of everyone’s lives. We see their best, staged photos, and feel as if we are failures. Yes, I’m saying we.

I will be the first to admit, comparison has stolen my joy a time or two. I am so guilty of seeing someone’s photo on Instagram and thinking to myself, “Wow, she looks amazing, I wish I looked like that. Or, “Their life looks perfect! Why does mine seem like such a wreck sometimes?” But ya know what? My life is a wreck sometimes. And isn’t everyone’s? We all have days where we don’t fix our hair, or we don’t clean our houses because our days were too demanding. If you say you haven’t had a day like that, you’re lying to yourself! The truth is – We aren’t perfect. Nobody is, and that’s okay! We don’t have to be.

So many times, we put our self worth in the way we look, or the way our lives look. Then if something goes wrong, we immediately feel worthless. But the problem with that is, we are putting our worth in temporary things. We are putting our worth in ourselves. We need to put our worth in Jesus. He made us in His image, and created us beautifully. He created every part of us that makes us who we are. He loves all the little things about you that you think are flaws. He gave you the children that make your house a disaster at times. He has blessed you with the life that you feel is too chaotic to share on social media. God makes no mistakes, and loves every part of you that makes you, you!

I was inspired to write this blog post because there are so many ladies, and even men that struggle with self-image/self-worth. I personally, really struggled with this for a long time and God has helped me to overcome it. I want you to know that you are beautiful, because you are created in His image. You are loved, because Jesus died for you, and you are chosen, because you are His child.

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psalms‬ ‭139:14‬ ‬‬

“For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:12‬‬‬

  6. Love reading your blog today. Made me stop and think about things. I too have been there thinking I wasn’t worthy. Im sure we all have at some point in our lives. Then I remember what God did for me by forgiving me of my sins and sending his Son to die on the cross for me. I’m so undeserving of his love for me and so grateful that he says I am.
