“Oh be careful little eyes what you see, oh be careful little eyes what you see… for the Father up above is looking down in love… so be careful little eyes what you see.”
Last night, that song came to mind while I was watching tv. I’m not much of a tv person these days, mainly because it’s always so hard to find anything to watch. However, I did find a show that I watched a long time ago, and thought I’d watch it again. As it began, the scenes I saw were full of drama, (SIN) and it would be easy to get pulled into it… but something in my spirit wasn’t right. I felt so off. I knew I needed to go to sleep, but as I drifted off, that song kept playing in my head.
As I’ve mentioned before, my favorite verse at the moment is:
”Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.“
Philippians 4:8 KJV
What kind of thoughts are in my head? What am I filling my mind with? I am in control of what I allow my mind to dwell on. I am in control of the content I consume. I choose what I see most times… are those things good? Are they just, pure, lovely, or honest?
I’ll be truthful, this one is hitting me like a ton of bricks. What I put into my heart and mind, is what will come out, and overflow into my life. Our consumption affects our output. It’s important that my output is good. I’m spending my days pouring into my husband, children, and others in God’s name… my output needs to be Godly.
When we look at the things we see on our phones, the tv we watch, the music we listen to, the books we read… how important is it to us that we follow what God’s Word says?
“Oh Mykaela, that’s so silly… a little bit of this won’t hurt.” Well, is it silly? Or is it right? As Christians I believe we are tiptoeing a little too close to the line, instead of running as far as we can from it. We can be in this world, but not of it.
I sing “Oh Be Careful” with my kids often, and I love the message it sends to them. It’s so important to be aware of what we’re looking at because Jesus is watching. He wants us to live for Him. What does he see when He watches me? What does He see when He watches you?
This was just a small thought on my heart today. I hope it’s an encouragement to you. Thanks for reading!
